This is a huipil bag from the Mayan village of Joyabaj in Guatemala. The back of the bag is handwoven in a primitive ikat design from part of a corte or skirt. There's a separate pocket in the front, framed by what would have been the collar of the huipil. This particular bag from Joyabaj is unusual in that the usual circular stitching around the neck has been replaced by a design using letters and small flowers. Size 10" x 9 "
