Huipil Bag - Large Half Moon Patzun Calendar 2 ***SOLD***
These bags are made from huipils or women's shirts from the Mayan village of Patzun. Patzun huipils are beautifully embroidered, usually with flowers on a handwoven cotton dark red striped fabric but this bag is done in the feathers and calendar style from Patzun which often depicts characters from the Mayan calendar in the squares circling the neck. In this example the characters have been replaced with flower symbols. The neckline of the huipil forms a roomy pocket on the front of the bag and the back is a wonderful ikat design which incorporates a few metallic threads in the hand woven pattern. Zippers shut - Size 13 1/2" x 14" not including fringe.
Note that the embroidery on this bag shows signs of wear.
