Huipil Bag - Large Square Chichicastenango Black with Roses ***SOLD***
This bag was made by the Mayans, recycled out of the beautiful hand-woven and embroidered traditional clothing known as huipils. Each village has a unique style of embroidery, this bag is from Chichicastenango. The heavily embroidered sun pattern would have been the neckline of the shirt but now frames a pocket on the front of the bag. The tapestry stitching is a little larger on this bag, which means that the detail is not as fine as many Chichicastenango bags but the woven black background makes it graphically very interesting.
It comes with a tag explaining its origin and the town that it's from. It's one-of-a-kind. When it's gone, it's gone. Size 14 1/2" x 13 " not including fringe.
