Huipil Bag - Large Square Chichicastenango Rose Basket
These bags were made by the Mayans, recycled out of the beautiful hand-woven and embroidered traditional clothing known as huipils. Each village has a unique style of embroidery. I have a pair of these bags with matching center panels from the town of Chichicastenango. The embroidered panel of roses in a basket is set into and backed with handwoven ikat fabric that would be used for the Mayan woman's corte or skirt. The ikat fabric on one of these bags has a few metallic threads woven through it. Fully lined and zippered with adjustable strap. Size 13 1/2" x 14 1/2" not including the fringe
