Huipil Bag - Large Market Bag Flowers 5 ***Sold***
A roomy bag made from a Mayan woman's huipil or shirt. There is a large unlined outside pocket formed by the neckline of the huipil and covered in a button down flap and a long 2 1/2" wide padded strap that can be worn over both shoulders for comfort. It zippers closed.The back and the strap are made from an ikat design with a few metallic silver threads that would have been from a corte or skirt.
The embroidered flowers on this bag are beautifully executed with silver threads in their centers. Every Mayan village has its own style of weaving and embroidery and women take great pride in their clothing. Bags are cut from actual huipils and may show slight signs of wear, although this one is in excellent condition. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to preserve the vibrant colors. Size 12 1/2" x 15"
