Huipil Bag - Large Square Chichicastenango Foxgloves
These bags were made by the Mayans, recycled out of the beautiful hand-woven and embroidered traditional clothing known as huipils. Each village has a unique style of embroidery. I have a pair of these which would have been cut from the same huipil from the town of Chichicastenango. The embroidered panel of foxglove flowers is set into and backed with handwoven ikat fabric that would be used for the Mayan woman's corte or skirt. The ikat fabrics on these bags have a few metallic threads woven through them. Fully lined and zippered with adjustable strap. Size 13 1/2" x 15"
